A till that gets better every week.
Volcanoview is a café, restaurant, campsite and venue at the foot of Taranaki. We built Possi, their point of sale, around the way their team works. When something gets in the way, staff say so from the till, and we build the fix.

The problem
A generic till asks a place like this to work around it.
Breakfast in the café, dinner in the restaurant, campers ordering at the counter, and an events calendar on top. One small team runs all of it, often on the same shift.
Off-the-shelf systems are built for an average venue. Every gap becomes a workaround, and the people who notice them, the staff on the floor, rarely get a say in how the tool changes.
What we built
One system for the counter, the floor and the kitchen.
Possi runs on iPads from the Home Screen. It's hosted in Sydney, right next to its database, so it stays quick for a busy service in New Zealand.

The till
Menus by service, from breakfast through to the campsite, with add-ons, open items and GST worked out as you go.

The floor
Every table at a glance, coloured by what it needs next, with the time since it last moved. Move a table or some of its items in a tap.

The kitchen
Orders land on the kitchen and bar screens the moment they're sent, each one once, with what to start next.

The numbers
Sales, discounts, busy hours and GST periods, ready for the accountant, with sales flowing into Xero.
The feedback loop
The people who use it every day decide what it does next.
Talk to Possi is built into the till. A note about a slow screen or a missing button doesn't get lost in a group chat. It becomes the next thing we build.
Say it
Anyone on the floor taps Talk to Possi on the till and says what got in the way, or types it.
We pick it up
The note moves to Working on it, so the team can see it's being handled.
We build it
We build around the clock, so friction logged during service gets built and shipped.
Possi replies
The note moves to Addressed, with a short reply saying what changed and how to use it.

The outcome
105 live updates since July. Each one fits Volcanoview a little better.
Possi isn't a product they bought once and learned to live with. It keeps changing to fit how they work. A few things that changed in October:
- Moving a table now takes well under a second, down from 11 to 13 seconds.
- Every kitchen and bar docket sends once, never in triples.
- Kids hot chocolates go to the bar, not the kitchen.
- Venues can add their own period tabs, such as Campsite.
- Refunds put gift voucher balances back, and no longer count as sales.
- Split cash and EFTPOS sales are recorded on both tenders in every report.
The scope
Built alongside their website, bookings and ticketing.
Possi sits next to the other tools we built for Volcanoview: the website, campsite bookings, event ticketing and payroll. Each one started as its own scope and grew from there.
- Till, tabs and table service
- Floor plan with table moves
- Kitchen and bar screens
- Menus, add-ons and service periods
- Card payments with Stripe
- Xero sync and GST reports
- Tax invoices, gift vouchers and cash-up
- Stock, recipe costs and margins
- iPad app on the Home Screen
- Talk to Possi, the feedback loop
